CST AWARDS AT THE 77TH CANNES FILM FESTIVAL

The CST – Commission supérieure technique de l’image et du son, is proud to present its award list for the 77th Cannes Film Festival. Over the years, the award list has reflected the importance of the creative and technical know-how of all cinema technicians. Two winners are rewarded for the quality of their technical mastery serving the vision intended by the director.

CST AWARD FOR BEST ARTIST-TECHNICIAN

Daria D’Antonio, Cinematographer on Paolo Sorrentino’s Parthenope.

« The 2024 CST award for best artist-technician is granted to Daria d’Antonio, director of photography on Paolo Sorrentino’s film, “Parthenope”. Daria’s images offer the perfect cinematography to Parthenope with grace and beauty. »

The jury of professionals was equally made up of : Jean Achache, Director and Scriptwriter, Ariane Boeglin Levent, Editor, Maud Boissac, Director of Cultural Affairs for the City of Cannes, Jean-Marie Dura, Expert in Cinema Economics, Agnès Godard, Director of Photography and Yves-Marie Omnes, Sound Director.

Created in 1951, the “Grand Prix Technique” – which singled out technical prowess – evolved into the “Prix Vulcain de l’artiste-technicien” in 2003 and it was awarded to a technical artist. In 2019, it became the “CST AWARD for Best Artist-Technician”.

CST AWARD FOR BEST YOUNG FEMALE FILM TECHNICIAN

Evgenia Alexandrova, Cinematographer on Noémie Merlant’s The Balconettes.

A graduate of the Image section of the national film school La FEMIS, Evgenia works as a cinematographer on fiction and documentary films. Her credits include Noémie Merlant’s “Mi Iubita Mon Amour” (Cannes Film Festival 2021), Sonia Benslama’s “Machtat” (ACID, Cannes 2023), and Nara Normande and Tião’s “Sans Coeur” (Venice Film Festival 2023), for which she won the Best Photography Award at the Rio Film Festival 2023.

« The jury of the 2024 CST Award for Best Young Female Film Technician is proud to grant this year’s prize to Evgenia Alexandrova, director of photography on Noémie Merlant’s film “The Balconettes” for the quality of her saturated colours and her assertive management of the lighting which transports us from comedy to genre. »

The professional jury was made up of Gérard Krawczyk, director, and Nadine Muse, sound editor.

The CST AWARD for Best Young Female Film Technician strives to promote professional equality between men and women in the film industry and confirms the CST’s desire to give visibility to the high-quality cinematographic work produced every year by young female technicians. This is the third edition of the award.
